Blocking and Unblocking Friends on Facebook

Do you have a friend or acquaintance that is annoying? You must probably considering putting them on Facebook blocked list or restricted list. Blocking someone not only unfriend’s them, but also prevents them from starting conversations with you or getting to see your latest photos/ status updates. Besides that, the people who have blocked can no longer tag you, add you as a friend, invite you to events, and more! You will also not be able to start a conversation with the blocked friend. The only exceptions are apps/groups/pages where you will still see their posts.

Important Note: Once you unblock someone, it does not automatically restore the friend connection. You will need to lookup for their profile and add them again. You may not be able to add them if them have blocked you or have left Facebook.

To block someone, head to https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=blocking

Besides blocking users, one can also manage restricted list (friends who are added to this list can only see your public posts), block app invites (especially when you are repeatedly notified of app invites sent by a single friend), and also block complete apps if you think it does not meet your expectation.

To block a friend you made add the name (if its unique) or even the email address and click on “block”. If the name is not unique, Facebook will show you a list of friends with the same name and you will have to click on “Block” next to the friend who wish to block. Don’t worry, your friends won’t be notified when you block them.

After a few months, if you wish to unblock a friend, head to the same blocking page https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=blocking and remove them from the blocked list. You will need to manually find them again to add them. If you can no longer find them, they probably don’t use Facebook anymore.
